How to use the Secret Santa generator

      1. Add everyone’s name. Type names one by one, or tap “Paste a list” to drop in a whole group from a chat or spreadsheet.
      2. Set the details. Add a budget, the exchange date and an optional event name, so everyone sees the same rules with their match.
      3. Add exclusions if you need them. Stop partners, roommates or last year’s pairs from drawing each other.
      4. Draw names. The generator makes sure nobody gets themselves and every rule is respected.
      5. Send the private links. Each person gets their own link by WhatsApp, text, email or copy and paste. When they open it, they see only their own match.

Why use an online Secret Santa name picker?

Pulling names from a hat works when everyone is in the same room. It falls apart when the family is spread across cities, half the office is remote, or someone draws their own name and the whole round has to start over. An online Secret Santa generator fixes all of that. Nobody needs to be in the same place, nobody can peek at the hat, and the draw is guaranteed to be valid the first time.

Most Secret Santa websites ask you to create an account and collect every participant’s email address before you can even start. This one doesn’t. You type the names, press one button, and share the links in the group chat you already use. It takes about a minute, which is why it works well for last-minute office parties as well as big family exchanges planned weeks ahead.

      Features

      No sign-up, no email

There is nothing to register. Participants don’t need an account either. They just open their link. That makes it easy to include grandparents, kids with a parent’s phone, or coworkers you only know from Slack.

      Exclusions that actually work

Add “can’t draw” rules for couples, siblings or anyone who had each other last year. If your rules leave no valid way to draw, the generator tells you right away instead of producing a broken list. Learn more on the Secret Santa with exclusions page.

      Private links for every person

Each link opens a page that first asks “Is this you?” and then reveals the match, along with the budget, date and any note from the organizer. Links work on any phone or computer and can be reopened at any time.

      Share it your way

Send links one by one with WhatsApp, text message or email buttons, copy all messages at once for a group chat, or print folded slips for an in-person draw. See our guides for Secret Santa by text and Secret Santa on WhatsApp.

      One big circle (optional)

Turn on “One big circle” and everyone is linked in a single chain, so gifts pass around the whole group instead of forming small pairs. It’s a nice touch when you open gifts together.

Great for every kind of gift exchange

      • Families: keep partners apart, include relatives who live far away, and set one budget for everyone.
      • Offices and teams: paste a list of 50 coworkers, set a budget, and drop the links into Slack or Teams.
      • Friends and roommates: organize a holiday party in the group chat in under a minute.
      • Classrooms and clubs: print slips so kids can open their match in person.
      • Online communities: run a Discord or Reddit exchange where people only know each other by username.

      Secret Santa rules and tips

      • Agree on a budget. $20–$30 is common for coworkers. Families often go higher. Put it in the budget field so nobody has to ask.
      • Set a clear date. Give people at least two weeks if gifts need to be shipped.
      • Share wish lists. A few ideas or interests make shopping much easier, especially in large groups.
      • Keep it secret. Remind everyone to open only their own link. The fun is in the reveal.

      Frequently asked questions

Is this Secret Santa generator really free?

Yes. Drawing names, setting exclusions and sending private links are all free, with no sign-up, no email address and no limit on the number of people.

Do I need everyone’s email address?

No. After the draw you get one private link per person. Send it however your group already talks: WhatsApp, text message, Slack, Discord or email.

Can the organizer see who drew whom?

The results page only shows names and share buttons, not the matches. Each match is hidden inside that person’s link, so as long as you only open your own link, you can join your own draw and still be surprised.

How do I stop couples from drawing each other?

Open “Exclusions”, pick the two people and add a rule. Tick “both ways” so neither can draw the other. You can add as many rules as you like, and the generator tells you if the rules make a draw impossible.

Is the draw random and fair?

Yes. The generator picks uniformly at random among every valid result, so no one is more likely to draw a particular person, and nobody ever draws themselves.

What happens to the names I type?

They stay in your browser. The draw runs on your device and each match is stored inside the link itself, after the # symbol, which is never sent to our server.

What if someone loses their link?

The organizer can reopen this page on the same device and tap “Show last draw’s links” to resend the same link. If you draw again, everyone gets a new match and old links stop matching.

      How many people can join?

Any number from 3 people up to large office groups of 100 or more. Use “Paste a list” to add many names at once.
